Hyderabad: The Telangana government is making final preparations to roll out the Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company at full capacity beginning June 2, coinciding with State Formation Day.

Significant progress has been made in recent weeks toward establishing the new utility. State officials have secured approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and finalized Power Purchase Agreements. The employee allocation process has reached its concluding phases, officials confirmed.

A critical component of the launch involves cataloguing agricultural distribution infrastructure statewide. The state is home to approximately 5.60 lakh agricultural transformers. To complete this assessment efficiently, authorities have devised a systematic approach: three survey teams will be stationed across each of the 744 operation sections, resulting in 2,232 teams conducting field work daily.

To streamline data collection, the Rythu DISCOM has developed a specialized mobile application for field personnel. Through this tool, assistant engineers will document photographs, technical specifications, and geographic coordinates of agricultural distribution transformers within their areas. The application enables uploading of transformer structure images, DTR emboss numbers, and nameplate information.

Senior officials from both existing distribution companies recently convened via video conference to review survey preparations. They reported that a trial survey had already been successfully executed in the Rajendranagar Circle.

The Electricity Regulatory Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on May 28 regarding the licence for the Rythu DISCOM. CMD Musharraf Faruqui indicated that full operations could commence on June 2 upon completion of asset mapping, though final authorization remains subject to government clearance.

Officials from the Southern Power Distribution Company, Northern Power Distribution Company, and other senior directors participated in the coordination meeting.
