Telangana Disburses ₹3,301 Crore in Rythu Bima Claims to Nearly 66,000 Farmer Families

Telangana's agricultural insurance programme has delivered substantial financial relief to farming communities across the state. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced that the Rythu Bima scheme has transferred ₹3,301.90 crore to the beneficiaries of 66,038 farmer families since the current administration took charge.

The minister emphasised that the government has executed the farmer insurance initiative with due diligence, providing timely monetary assistance to families following the death of qualifying farmers. He rejected claims circulating in certain quarters that the scheme had been shelved, characterising such reports as entirely unfounded. Tummala asserted that the administration remains steadfastly committed to advancing farmer interests and has maintained continuity across all schemes designed to benefit the agricultural sector.

Expanding Coverage and Restoring Programmes

The disbursement timeline reveals the scheme's expanding reach. Between December 2023 and year-end, the government channelled ₹1,004.50 crore to 20,090 families. During 2024, this expanded to ₹1,293.05 crore distributed among 25,861 families.

Beyond Rythu Bima, Tummala highlighted the restoration of multiple farmer-centric initiatives that had lapsed under the previous regime. These encompass mechanisation programmes for agriculture, soil health assessment services, and subsidised distribution of quality seeds. The minister also alleged that the preceding government had withheld its mandatory contributions to several centrally-funded schemes, thereby limiting farmer access to associated benefits.

Premium Coverage for Current Year

Looking ahead, the minister reported that 42.16 lakh farmers have registered for the 2025-26 period under the scheme. To guarantee uninterrupted insurance protection, the state government has fully settled the annual premium obligation of ₹1,359.56 crore with the Life Insurance Corporation of India.

Under the current financial year, the scheme has already extended insurance payouts totalling ₹1,004.35 crore to 20,087 farmer families. Tummala reiterated that Rythu Bima remains instrumental in providing critical financial security to grieving households and called upon stakeholders to refrain from spreading inaccurate information regarding farmer welfare schemes.

The minister concluded by reaffirming the government's commitment to sustaining the effective implementation of Rythu Bima payments and maintaining farmer welfare as a priority across Telangana.
