Secunderabad Railway Police have apprehended two repeat offenders in connection with a robbery incident that occurred at Secunderabad Railway Station. The arrested individuals have been identified as Thandur Mahendar, aged 20, and Pegada Anjali, aged 30.

The arrest took place on May 1 as part of a coordinated operation involving Secunderabad Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force. According to police records, both suspects had previously been engaged in property-related crimes in the Neradmet and Gopalapuram police station jurisdictions.

Details of the Incident

The robbery occurred during the late evening of April 29. Armed with a folding knife, the two suspects made their way to Secunderabad Railway Station with criminal intent. At approximately 11:30 pm, they confronted a passenger and demanded money while brandishing the weapon. When the victim declined to comply, Mahendar launched a physical assault, inflicting injuries on the victim's forehead and right-hand index finger. The victim also sustained a punch to the nose during the altercation.

Following the attack, Anjali removed ₹500 from the victim's shirt pocket. The pair then fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.

Apprehension and Recovery

On the morning of May 1, at around 10 am, police surveillance teams spotted the suspects exhibiting suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of Secunderabad Railway Station's perimeter. Officers from both Secunderabad Railway Police and the RPF moved in and took the suspects into custody.

During interrogation, both individuals confessed to the robbery. Police recovered ₹200 in cash from the accused and seized the folding knife used in the assault.

Background

Police indicated that both suspects had been supporting themselves through the collection and sale of discarded bottles. Despite this livelihood, they maintained a history of criminal involvement and had continued their illegal activities following previous jail stints.

Operation Leadership

The successful operation was coordinated by SHO B. Saieashwar Goud, with support from officers S.V. Subba Reddy and T. Madhav. The crime team and women police personnel contributed to the apprehension. RPF official Bhavani Shankar Saraswat and other Railway Protection Force members provided crucial assistance during the operation.

Railway and Road Safety IGP K. Ramesh Naidu commended the police team for their efforts, indicating that those involved would receive recognition for their work.
