Ponnam Prabhakar Directs Fresh Road Safety Push to Combat Highway Fatalities

Hyderabad's Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has ordered a comprehensive road safety initiative aimed at addressing the mounting toll of accidents on the state's highway network.
The minister instructed Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj to roll out targeted interventions as part of a broader road safety programme designed to bring down fatality rates. Prabhakar highlighted the urgency of tackling accident hotspots through a strategic focus on high-risk zones.
The intervention strategy encompasses identifying accident-prone corridors and launching public awareness campaigns. Prabhakar pointed to the sharp uptick in accidents occurring on both national and state highways, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Under the new measures, authorities have been directed to position damaged vehicles at visible locations near accident-prone stretches. These exhibits will feature prominent warning signage to alert both drivers and passengers. Officials believe such displays will function as visual deterrents at critical accident sites, while simultaneously educating the travelling public about road safety practices. The expectation is that heightened awareness will translate into fewer fatal collisions.
The minister has also mandated coordination with the police department to ensure smooth execution of the plan. High-risk zones across the state will be equipped with these warning displays.
Prabhakar framed the initiative as essential to preserving lives and called on departmental heads to expedite implementation with full rigour.
