Hyderabad's Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made a direct appeal to the Centre for swift approval of the long-pending Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II expansion project, citing the city's urgent need for enhanced public transportation infrastructure.

During discussions held in New Delhi this week, Revanth Reddy met with Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to press for clearance of the metro expansion proposal. The state government has already submitted a Detailed Project Report to central authorities for the ambitious undertaking.

The Phase-II expansion envisages seven metro corridors totalling 122.9 kilometres, with a projected investment of Rs 38,595 crore. According to the Chief Minister, such expansion is essential to meet the transport demands of the city's rapidly expanding residential and commercial zones while ensuring commuter safety and convenience.

A key development underpinning the state's push for metro expansion is the Telangana government's recent assumption of full operational control of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-I from L&TMRHL. This takeover, Revanth Reddy indicated, would facilitate smoother execution of both Phase-II and Phase-III projects.

The Chief Minister has proposed that Phase-II be executed as a joint venture between the Centre and the state government. Additionally, he has urged the Union Minister to incorporate the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport–Bharat Future City corridor as part of Hyderabad Metro Phase-III, for which a Detailed Project Report has already been submitted to the Centre.

Union Secretary for Housing and Urban Affairs K. Srinivas, HMRCL Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmed, government adviser N.V.S. Reddy, and other officials participated in the New Delhi meeting.
