Telangana CM Pushes Centre for Metro Phase 2 Approval and Funds Release

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has written to Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy requesting urgent intervention to expedite the disbursement of funds committed by the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) and secure clearances for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2.

In a detailed seven-page letter, Revanth Reddy stated that his government has fulfilled all prerequisites for assuming control of Hyderabad Metro Phase 1 and advancing Phase 2 of the project. He requested that Kishan Reddy escalate the matter with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to accelerate the approval process.

According to the Chief Minister, the IRFC was scheduled to disburse the initial tranche of financing on June 15, 2026, as per the Metro takeover agreement. The State government has reportedly satisfied all mandatory requirements and remitted Rs.84.32 crore as an upfront fee demanded by IRFC. However, the funds have not yet been released, Revanth Reddy noted.

The Chief Minister expressed willingness to provide additional documentation, meet with Kishan Reddy alongside senior state officials, and present comprehensive details regarding the Metro takeover arrangements and Phase 2 specifics to address any outstanding queries.

Revanth Reddy specifically requested that Kishan Reddy facilitate the immediate release of the IRFC loan and secure timely approvals for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2. He also sought an expedited meeting with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to deliberate on the project and resolve lingering concerns.

The proposed Phase 2 expansion comprises seven corridors totalling 122.9 kilometres across Hyderabad, with an estimated project cost of Rs.38,595 crore.

The Chief Minister reiterated his availability for discussions and assured that he would bring all relevant agreements and supporting documentation to clarify any outstanding issues and facilitate swift resolution.
