Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy convened a high-level meeting at the state Secretariat on Monday to assess Telangana's readiness for the approaching southwest monsoon and issue directives to all relevant departments.

The gathering drew representatives from the Agriculture, Irrigation, Urban Development, Panchayat Raj, Health, and Home departments, alongside senior officials from HYDRAA, Disaster Management, and Fire Services. Officials from the Meteorological Department opened proceedings with briefings on the El Niño phenomenon, expected rainfall patterns, and broader meteorological considerations.

Focus on agricultural resilience and water conservation

The Chief Minister instructed agricultural officials to launch farmer awareness campaigns addressing potential drought scenarios and promoting water-efficient cultivation methods. Revanth Reddy emphasised the value of crop rotation and diversification practices, directing officials to communicate these strategies to farming communities in accessible language.

Irrigation infrastructure emerged as another priority. Officials received instructions to expedite repair and maintenance work on project gates statewide, with the Chief Minister ordering the Finance Department to release necessary funds without delay. He similarly mandated funding allocation for road rehabilitation and bridge reconstruction efforts.

Emergency preparedness and coordinated response

Stressing the importance of departmental readiness during the rainy months, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to deploy the ₹1,000 crore earmarked for disaster management according to established protocols and immediate operational needs. He underscored the necessity of swift action in situations involving loss of life, property, or livestock.

The Chief Minister called upon all officials to maintain public accessibility and strengthen relief operations as conditions warrant. He further emphasised the critical role of inter-departmental coordination in minimising disruptions throughout the monsoon period.
