Telangana CM Pledges Enhanced Worker Welfare as State Celebrates May Day

Hyderabad: On Thursday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy used the occasion of International Workers' Day to underscore his government's dedication to worker welfare and outline a range of support mechanisms being rolled out across Telangana.
In his May Day statement, the Chief Minister characterised labourers as vital contributors to the state's development trajectory. He stressed that workers operate with enhanced dignity under the current administration and that the government's new industrial policy framework would facilitate their continued advancement.
The Chief Minister highlighted several welfare initiatives launched since the government took office. A ₹5 lakh accident insurance scheme for gig and unorganised workers was among the first measures implemented. The government has also introduced the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Welfare Bill to provide structured protections for this segment.
Revanth Reddy pointed to employment generation as a core outcome of the administration's labour-centric approach, noting that these initiatives have created positions for lakhs of individuals. He also referenced the government's action in clearing outstanding compassionate appointment cases within state departments.
Recognition of existing workers has formed another pillar of the government's strategy. Singareni workers have benefited from bonus disbursements timed before major festivals, with Dasara and Deepavali payments highlighted. In a significant development, contract workers received a ₹5,000 bonus—a first for this category.
Insurance and financial protection initiatives represent a broader safety net being constructed by the administration. Through partnerships with banking institutions, workers now have access to insurance coverage extending up to ₹1 crore. The government has also established dedicated welfare measures for Telangana workers employed in Gulf countries, including a ₹5 lakh financial assistance provision for families in cases of worker deaths abroad.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government remains focused on expanding and strengthening support systems designed to enhance both the material welfare and social standing of workers across all employment categories in the state.
