Government schools can nurture national leaders, CM tells parents

Hyderabad — At the opening of a contemporary Telangana Public School in Arutla village, Rangareddy district, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has made an appeal to parents to reconsider their perception of government schools, asserting that state-run institutions can develop the nation's future leaders.

The Chief Minister shared his own educational background, noting that he attended government school before rising to his current position. He also referenced the example of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, who likewise received his schooling in a government institution.

Revanth Reddy expressed his expectation that present-day students in government schools should harbour ambitions of leading India in years to come. He held up the Arutla school as a benchmark for educational excellence in Telangana and credited the village with setting a precedent that resonates across the state.

The institution provides instruction spanning nursery through Class 10, with the Chief Minister noting that 1,814 students are presently enrolled. He pointed to the surge in admission applications as evidence of shifting attitudes, remarking that the level of interest mirrors what is typically seen at prominent private institutions.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that government schools have historically battled negative perceptions but voiced optimism that the Arutla school would function as a blueprint for transforming the sector statewide.

Substantial state commitment to public education

Speaking on resource allocation, Revanth Reddy highlighted that approximately 27 lakh students are currently studying across government schools in Telangana. The state government dedicates ₹27,000 crore to education, representing 8 per cent of the overall state budget, he noted.

The Chief Minister characterised this financial commitment as an investment in posterity rather than routine budgetary spending. Following the government's formation, officials initiated a comprehensive overhaul of public education systems and established an Education Commission headed by Akunuri Murali to guide these efforts.

The commission subsequently proposed measures designed to fortify the education infrastructure. Revanth Reddy further underscored the necessity of equipping students with practical skills, mentioning that the government is developing Young India Integrated Schools throughout the state.

The Chief Minister announced that the Young India Skill University will open its doors on December 9. Drawing attention to athletics, he stressed India's need to elevate its standing in Olympic competition.

The government is establishing the Young India Sports University through a collaborative public-private framework, Revanth Reddy disclosed. He expressed conviction that sportspeople from Telangana will secure Olympic gold medals in the coming years.
