Hyderabad: Concerns over mounting traffic congestion have prompted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to issue fresh directives to law enforcement, emphasizing the need to balance security arrangements with public convenience during his official movements and those of visiting dignitaries throughout Telangana.

The Chief Minister held Director General of Police C. V. Anand accountable for reducing commuter inconvenience and eliminating prolonged traffic halts tied to convoy operations. An incident on Wednesday, when Revanth Reddy experienced significant congestion near the airport while en route to Delhi, prompted the intervention.

Viewing the matter seriously, the Chief Minister has demanded accountability from police officials responsible for the traffic management failures. He stressed that traffic personnel must maintain vehicle flow continuously during convoy arrangements, rather than imposing blanket stoppages.

Revanth Reddy specifically instructed officers to refrain from blocking vehicles from opposing directions except when absolutely necessary, directing traffic management teams to adopt methods that reduce public hardship.

Police hierarchy mobilized for traffic reform

In response to the Chief Minister's mandate, DGP Anand convened a video conference engaging sub-inspector rank officers and senior personnel from traffic and law enforcement divisions across Telangana's police commissionerates.

Anand underscored that the Chief Minister's persistent focus on the issue underscores its gravity and called for field-level officers to prioritize implementation. He announced plans to establish a dedicated traffic bureau headed by an additional DGP, aimed at overhauling traffic management systems statewide.

The DGP instructed officers to map alternative routes in advance, particularly during congested periods. Rather than completely halting traffic during convoy passage, officers must employ strategic regulation to maintain movement.

Preparations for monsoon season

Looking ahead to the approaching monsoon, Anand directed heightened monitoring of airport corridors and key traffic intersections. Police will focus on preventing waterlogging and reducing congestion exacerbated by heavy rainfall.

Anand also issued a stern warning against unauthorized parking on the Outer Ring Road, cautioning that such violations would face police action. He mandated enhanced coordination between traffic personnel, law and order units, and specialized wings to strengthen overall traffic control.

The video conference included participation from Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar, Cyberabad Commissioner M. Ramesh, and Malkajgiri Commissioner B. Sumati.
