Civil Supplies Commissioner Directs Faster Paddy Movement in Nalgonda Operations

Civil Supplies Commissioner Stephen Ravindra undertook a surprise inspection of paddy procurement and transportation operations in Nalgonda district, issuing directives to expedite the movement of grain through the supply chain.

The Commissioner visited the Pedakaparthi procurement centre in Chityal mandal on Tuesday, focusing his review on unloading efficiency, vehicle circulation, and overall transportation logistics. Accompanying him were District Collector B. Chandrashekhar and other officials who assessed inventory levels, workforce availability, and transport infrastructure.

At the facility, officials reported that 25,000 quintals of paddy had arrived, with 7,000 quintals already processed through digital tab entry systems. Approximately 15,000 metric tonnes remained at the centre awaiting processing. To support operations, 10 to 20 additional lorries had been deployed, while advance notice had been provided to rice millers to ensure adequate labour availability.

Ravindra instructed officials to enhance unloading capacity at rice mills and improve the rotation of transport vehicles. He also called for increased deployment of lorries and hamalis—manual labourers involved in paddy handling. The Commissioner emphasized that digital tab entry completion must reach 100 percent across all operations.

During his inspection, Ravindra reviewed drying equipment, cleaning procedures, and the availability of gunny bags and tarpaulins. Where shortages were identified, he directed officials to arrange additional tarpaulins immediately.

The Commissioner subsequently visited Siddhartha Rice Industries at Vattimarthy to review its operations. The facility was operating with 35 workers, and Ravindra instructed management to increase both unloading speed and vehicle turnaround time. He examined the system-based digital recording of paddy data and tab entry documentation.

Ravindra prioritized addressing procurement centres with incomplete digital entries, proposing that paddy be transferred to intermediate storage facilities should rice mills face space limitations. He also instructed the Transport Department's Deputy Commissioner Vani to mobilize additional vehicles to further streamline paddy procurement transportation across the district.
