BJP Attributes Mancherial Farmer Deaths to Congress Procurement Mismanagement

Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has attributed the deaths of three farmers in Luxettipet mandal of Mancherial district to what he terms administrative failure by the Congress-led state government. The farmers—Gundarapu Venkatesh, Tanugula Abhiram, and Lachanna—died during heavy rainfall and strong winds while attempting to protect their harvested grain at procurement centres.
Rao characterized the incident as a consequence of prolonged crop procurement delays that compelled farmers to remain at procurement facilities for extended periods, thereby subjecting them to hazardous meteorological conditions. He characterized the state administration's handling of the situation as demonstrating "administrative failure and incompetence" and faulted the government for its inability to safeguard farmers and their produce during adverse weather.
The BJP leader underscored the irony of the situation, noting that those who sustain the nation were perishing while guarding their crops. He contended that the deaths represent a broader failure of the state government in fulfilling its obligations to the agricultural sector.
Questioning the rationale behind procurement delays despite central government backing, Rao pointed out that the Union government has already extended Minimum Support Price assistance alongside funding for labour, transportation, and other procurement-related expenditures. He argued that these resources should have enabled smoother operations.
Rao has called for immediate financial compensation to the bereaved families and has urged the state administration to accelerate grain procurement operations across Telangana to mitigate further difficulties for farming communities. The BJP has continued its criticism of the Congress government regarding procurement bottlenecks and the challenges confronting farmers in multiple districts throughout the state.
