Ponnam Prabhakar Demands BJP Account for Telangana Commitments

Hyderabad: The spotlight on Telangana's unfulfilled commitments must be central to any campaign narrative from the Bharatiya Janata Party, Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar declared on Tuesday. He put forward a pointed question to the party: what tangible benefits has it delivered to the state during its 12-year tenure governing the nation before appealing for electoral support?

Prabhakar levelled accusations of systematic discrimination against Telangana by the BJP. The Centre, he argued, has fallen short in honouring the undertakings given to the state following its creation. Rather than constructive engagement, he contended that the party has confined itself to attacking the Congress administration.

The Minister asserted that the BJP has repeatedly shown disrespect toward Telangana's formation. According to him, this stance has eroded the party's standing among voters across the state. He suggested that BJP leadership should evaluate their actual ground strength by examining the number of corporators and village heads they have managed to elect in municipal elections.

Prabhakar further claimed that eight BJP Members of Parliament secured their seats with assistance from the BRS. He suggested that the BRS had inadvertently strengthened the BJP's position by facilitating these electoral victories.

The Minister called on the national president of the BJP to uphold the standards of his position during his forthcoming visit to Telangana. Rather than limiting itself to criticising the state government, Prabhakar urged the party to focus on meeting its obligations to the state.
