Hyderabad: During a recent review meeting, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials and educators to strengthen the reputation of the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul system by raising educational quality and enhancing academic outcomes throughout Telangana.

The minister assessed performance data from Class 10 and Intermediate examinations at MJP Gurukul institutions on Thursday. He commended principals whose schools achieved perfect pass rates, while cautioning those managing underperforming institutions to conduct comprehensive self-assessments before the upcoming academic session.

Prabhakar envisioned these Gurukul schools becoming premier educational establishments in the state in the year ahead. He urged teaching teams to collaborate in delivering comprehensive education that encompasses athletics, creative pursuits, scientific learning, and artificial intelligence training.

Infrastructure and Student Welfare Drive Progress

The minister highlighted the government's commitment to education, noting significant improvements in Gurukul infrastructure and amenities. He pointed out that many institutions previously operated from rented premises, whereas the state has now invested in upgraded facilities, nutritious meals, and enhanced boarding provisions for students.

Prabhakar emphasised that families entrust their children to these schools based on government credibility and teacher integrity. He stressed that educators must nurture students with parental care, instilling discipline and ethical values. The minister also raised concerns about student mental health crises within Gurukul settings and mandated that staff focus on building psychological resilience and motivation.

Prabhakar underscored that collective teacher effort remains essential to advancing the MJP brand and positioning Telangana's Gurukul model as a benchmark for other states.

Examination Performance Reflects Institutional Strength

Gurukul institutions achieved a 98.45 percent pass rate in Class 10 assessments, with 9,788 students scoring above 500 marks. Among the network, 204 schools recorded 100 percent success, earning the minister's recognition. However, 65 schools with substandard results received warnings to strengthen their performance. The minister identified Telugu as an area requiring targeted intervention.

Prabhakar instructed schools to display photographs of high achievers on campus and publicise examination successes in local communities.

Intermediate second-year results reached 90.31 percent pass rate, while vocational second-year students achieved 97.72 percent. First-year pass rates stood at 85.80 percent for Intermediate and 95.81 percent for vocational streams. In Intermediate examinations, 4,183 students secured above 900 marks, with 496 students exceeding 980 marks.

Competitive Exam Focus and Infrastructure Expansion

Prabhakar announced plans to establish computer laboratories in every Gurukul school across Telangana. He directed officials to begin competitive examination preparation from Class 8, targeting NEET, EAMCET, and TGEAPCET qualifications. Additionally, he mandated direct Intermediate admissions for Class 10 completers within the Gurukul system.

The minister committed to personally visiting district-level Gurukul institutions and instructed schools to maintain regular parent-teacher engagement sessions to reinforce institutional reputation.

BC Welfare Department Secretary Balamaya Devi, MJP Gurukul Secretary Saidulu, regional coordinators, and school principals participated in the review meeting.
