Telangana Minister Sets End-of-May Deadline for Completing 2BHK House Distribution

Hyderabad: Telangana's Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy has issued orders to accelerate the completion of 2BHK house allocations statewide, setting May's end as the completion target.
During a review meeting held Thursday at the Housing Corporation headquarters, the Minister engaged with elected representatives and officials from the former Medak and Karimnagar districts to examine housing programmes, revenue administration, and forest-related matters. He instructed the authorities to expedite construction work on units nearing completion.
The government will provide financial assistance up to ₹5 lakh for incomplete housing units under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, the Minister announced. Prior expenditure will be accounted for before disbursing fresh funds. In cases where contractors fail to complete pending construction, beneficiaries are permitted to undertake the work themselves, with funds released through an expedited mechanism.
Addressing infrastructure shortcomings flagged by public representatives—including gaps in electricity supply, potable water access, sewage systems, and road connectivity—the Minister directed Collectors to immediately remove ineligible occupants from allocated homes. Vacant units will be redistributed to qualifying families in consultation with local legislative members.
An allocation of ₹400 crore has been earmarked for infrastructure development in 2BHK housing colonies. The government will also cancel allotments for houses that remain unoccupied and reallocate them to deserving families.
Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy warned of stringent penalties, including termination of service, for officials found involved in corrupt billing practices.
Under the Indiramma Housing Scheme, poverty remains the sole eligibility criterion. Collectors have been instructed to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries receive allocations.
The government provides 40 tonnes of sand at no cost for construction purposes. However, reports of misuse have surfaced. The Minister directed officials to tighten distribution protocols and establish preventive measures against irregular practices.
The Minister noted instances where beneficiaries located far from urban areas have leased out their allocated homes. Authorities will identify such situations and reallocate properties to eligible families residing nearby.
Taking a firm stance against encroachments on government-owned land, the Minister ordered strict enforcement action against unlawful occupation. To settle boundary disputes between Revenue and Forest Department jurisdictions, a coordinated survey using modern surveying technology will be conducted to establish precise demarcations and prevent future conflicts.
Reforms to the Survey, Settlement, and Land Records Department are strengthening land documentation systems across the state.
The Minister clarified that no additional revenue divisions or administrative mandals will be established. However, the government plans to construct Sub-Registrar offices, Mandal Revenue Officer offices, and Revenue Divisional Officer offices in district and constituency headquarters. Collectors are required to submit their proposals for these facilities.
IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu characterized the housing initiative as a flagship government programme, urging Collectors to ensure all sanctioned homes are constructed and completed without delay.
Revenue Secretary D.S. Lokesh Kumar and Housing Secretary V.P. Gautam were among the senior officials present at the meeting.
Following the review, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy inaugurated a 30 kW rooftop solar installation at the Housing Corporation headquarters. The facility is projected to produce approximately 4,500 electricity units monthly and help lower operational energy expenses.
