Telangana Police Now Entitled to Mandatory Leave on Birthdays and Anniversaries

Telangana's police department has rolled out a new leave policy granting officers and staff mandatory time off to mark their birthdays and wedding anniversaries, a decision framed as part of efforts to boost morale and foster better work-life balance among personnel.
The initiative came into effect following orders issued by Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, who instructed all departmental units to implement the measure. Circular instructions were distributed to ensure uniform application across the force.
The department's rationale centres on acknowledging the round-the-clock commitments of police personnel, who frequently work extended shifts and remain separated from their families while performing law and order duties. By formalising leave on these personal occasions, authorities aim to recognise the sacrifices made by officers and staff while helping reduce occupational stress.
The policy encompasses all ranks within the force, from constables through to senior commissioned officers. The DGP emphasised that the measure reflects the department's recognition of the police force's unwavering commitment to their duties. Unit commanders have been directed to grant leave when requested under routine circumstances.
The department has, however, stipulated clear parameters. Leave may be withheld during emergency situations or exceptional circumstances, with authorities clarifying that personnel should not regard the entitlement as unconditional. Approval hinges on verified dates maintained in official service records. Those seeking to utilise the benefit must file written applications with their immediate supervisors sufficiently in advance.
