BRS Demands Strict Law-and-Order Response to POCSO Case Against Union Minister's Son

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the child victim in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case involving Sai Bageerath, the son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
At a gathering held at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, senior BRS legislator Gangula Kamalakar asserted that his party would remain steadfast with the minor victim throughout the legal proceedings. He attributed the registration of the case against Sai Bageerath to persistent pressure applied by BRS leaders on police authorities.
Kamalakar rejected characterizations of the incident as stemming from caste-related tensions, insisting instead that it should be treated exclusively as a criminal matter. He also took aim at Bandi Sanjay Kumar, contending that the Union Minister had adopted an intimidating demeanor in recent statements made in Karimnagar, and questioned the intended audience for such remarks.
Addressing party members and functionaries, Kamalakar emphasised: "This is not a caste issue. It is a law-and-order issue."
The BRS leader further maintained that the Union Minister's son must extend full cooperation to investigative agencies and comply with all legal requirements.
The case has seen a significant development in its legal classification. According to investigative sources, police have incorporated more stringent provisions, specifically invoking Section 5(1) in conjunction with Section 6 of the POCSO Act. The initial complaint was lodged by the victim's mother at the Petbasheerabad police station.
The original charges filed by police included Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act as well as Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The Telangana government has entrusted the investigation to IPS officer Rithiraj, who has been tasked with overseeing the inquiry. Officials have indicated that investigators are conducting their examination of the allegations with heightened vigilance.
The case has sparked considerable political discourse, with opposition figures intensifying calls for stringent legal consequences.
