Hyderabad: The Telangana Police Department has presented a Rs 64 lakh insurance settlement to the family of G. Rajinikanth, an OCTOPUS constable who remains under ongoing medical care following a serious road accident that left him in a semi-conscious state.

The cheque was presented by Dr Anil Kumar, DG (Operations), on Friday at OCTOPUS headquarters in Begumpet. The payment was processed through the SBI Police Salary Package insurance scheme, which provides third-party coverage via Oriental Insurance Company.

Rajinikanth, attached to the TGSP 3rd Battalion and deputed to OCTOPUS since January 8, 2025, suffered the accident on October 2, 2025. While returning from operational duties at the Commando Training Centre in Ibrahimpatnam, a two-wheeler struck him at approximately 11:55 am. The impact caused severe head trauma requiring immediate hospitalization.

Medical personnel transported the constable to Kamineni Hospital in LB Nagar, where neurosurgeons performed skull flap surgery. He currently receives treatment at a rehabilitation facility in Banjara Hills, where he remains under continuous medical observation.

The police registered a formal case at Ibrahimpatnam Police Station under Crime Number 573/2025. Rajinikanth maintained a Police Salary Silver Package account at SBI's Moinabad branch, which included the insurance protection that ultimately covered his claim.

Recognizing the severity of his condition, DG Dr Anil Kumar expedited the insurance claim process. OCTOPUS SP (Admin) M. Venkateshwarlu oversaw the proceedings, while Bravo SWAT Team DSP P. Vijay Kumar and Headquarters Inspector (Communications) B. Srinivasa Rao coordinated closely with banking and insurance representatives to complete all necessary documentation. Oriental Insurance Company subsequently approved the full Rs 64 lakh settlement.

The constable's father Komarayya, mother Nagamani, brother Naresh, and sister Sirisha received the cheque during the presentation ceremony. Family members expressed gratitude toward police officials for their assistance throughout the challenging period.

Senior officers emphasized that all personnel should familiarize themselves with the comprehensive insurance and security provisions available through the SBI Police Salary Package, which offers substantial financial protection to police families during emergencies. The event was attended by OCTOPUS SP (Admin) M. Venkateshwarlu, Additional SP (Operations) B. Raghunandan Rao, Training Consultant Colonel Bharat Prasad, various DSPs, and representatives from Oriental Insurance Company.
