Telangana Fuel Supply Surges as Panic Buying Eases, Says Union Minister

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has dismissed concerns about fuel shortages in Telangana, pointing to substantial increases in the availability of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG following consultations with oil marketing companies on Wednesday.

The minister highlighted dramatic improvements in supply volumes across the state. Petrol deliveries have climbed from approximately 6,400 kilolitres daily to 10,300 KL, while Hyderabad alone has seen its allocation rise from around 3,200 KL to nearly 6,400 KL. Diesel supplies have expanded even more sharply, jumping from roughly 8,000 KL to a range of 15,500 to 19,300 KL statewide, with Hyderabad's share increasing from approximately 2,700 KL to nearly 5,060 KL.

Kishan Reddy noted that out of approximately 4,325 fuel stations operating in the region, only 106 experienced temporary supply interruptions. Officials are actively resolving these gaps, with most outlets expected to receive fresh inventory by evening.

The minister attributed recent disruptions to unfounded rumours regarding potential price increases, which sparked panic purchasing and long queues at petrol pumps. He cautioned against unsafe fuel storage practices and called on the public to base their decisions on verified information rather than speculation.

India maintains adequate petroleum reserves with consistent flows from domestic refineries and international imports, Kishan Reddy stated. Supply chains remain stable across all regions, he added.

The central government has directed oil marketing companies to accelerate stock distribution and prioritise retail customers alongside essential service providers. "There is no nationwide shortage of petrol, diesel, or domestic LPG. The Central Government, in coordination with state governments and oil companies, is taking all necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted supply. I urge citizens not to panic, not to hoard, and to rely on official information," he said.

The minister's reassurances come as authorities work to stabilise markets and restore public confidence in fuel availability across Telangana.
