Nizamabad Police Officer Arrested for Demanding Rs 7,000 Bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested a police sub-inspector in Nizamabad on charges of soliciting and receiving a bribe in exchange for official favours.
Sub-Inspector Chitannoju Bhaskara Chari, posted at Bodhan Town Police Station, was apprehended on Wednesday while allegedly accepting Rs 7,000 from a complainant. According to ACB officials, the officer had promised to exclude the complainant's nephew from involvement in a criminal case in return for the payment.
The initial demand made by the officer was Rs 10,000, which was subsequently negotiated down to Rs 7,000 following the complainant's request for a reduced amount. The ACB recovered the entire sum from the officer's possession.
ACB authorities characterised the officer's conduct as accepting improper advantage while discharging his official responsibilities in a dishonest manner. The complainant's identity has been kept confidential for protective purposes.
The arrested officer is scheduled to be presented before the II Additional Special Judge for Trial of SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally in Hyderabad. The investigation into the matter remains ongoing, with officials pursuing further inquiries into the allegations and connected elements of the case.
This arrest is part of a broader series of ACB operations targeting corruption among public officials across Telangana.
