NPCI Bharat BillPay Crosses One Million E-Challan Transactions Across Five States
BANGALORE — NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL), the wholly owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India, has reached a notable achievement in its digital payment infrastructure, with the e-challan category on Bharat Connect surpassing one million transactions since launch.
The milestone represents a combined transaction value exceeding INR 600 million across multiple jurisdictions. The service is currently operational in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi, enabling residents to view and settle traffic penalties through a unified digital platform.
The Bharat Connect e-challan system offers citizens a secure and interoperable mechanism for managing civic traffic violations. The platform's expansion reflects broader momentum in India's shift towards digitized government services and cashless payment ecosystems.
State-level performance data reveals significant variation in uptake. Andhra Pradesh has emerged as the strongest performer, with approximately 700,000 transactions logged since the service became available in the state. Telangana and Gujarat have followed with meaningful adoption rates, while Delhi and Himachal Pradesh represent more recent additions to the network.
"The E-challan category on Bharat Connect is becoming increasingly popular, having crossed the milestone of one million transactions. This achievement reflects the trust people place in our platform and signals a clear shift in consumer behaviour towards digital-first public services," said Dr. Noopur Chaturvedi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NBBL. "We will continue to work closely with ecosystem partners to deepen our reach and enhance accessibility to civic payments for citizens across the country."
The e-challan initiative represents a significant integration of state-level traffic enforcement mechanisms into India's Digital Public Infrastructure framework. The successful deployment across five states has demonstrated a scalable and replicable model that transport authorities and state governments can adopt more rapidly.
Officials indicated that additional states are anticipated to join the platform in coming months, potentially expanding the network to national coverage and establishing standardized digital processes for traffic violation management across India.
