Musi Rejuvenation Project Set to Transform Hyderabad While Prioritising Rehabilitation

Hyderabad — The state government is positioning the Musi Rejuvenation Project as a transformative initiative that will establish a robust foundation for Telangana's advancement and position Hyderabad among the world's leading cities, according to Revenue, Housing and Information & Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy.

During a review meeting at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, the minister outlined how development will proceed hand-in-hand with humanitarian safeguards. The gathering included Revenue Secretary D.S. Lokesh Kumar, Stamps and Registration Inspector General Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu, Musi Riverfront Development Project Managing Director E.V. Narasimha Reddy, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed, and district collectors from Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri.

Addressing Decades of Environmental and Flood Challenges

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has envisioned the project as a landmark undertaking to revitalise the river while catalysing tourism, job creation and economic expansion, the minister explained. The initiative seeks to bolster environmental stewardship and create healthier, safer conditions for residents going forward.

The Musi River has long posed challenges for local communities. Pollution levels have plagued residents for many years, while seasonal flooding has created recurring difficulties for those residing near its banks. The rejuvenation effort aims to address these longstanding issues through comprehensive infrastructure development.

The project blueprint encompasses flood control measures, water treatment systems, landscaped green areas, thoroughfares, recreational parks, pedestrian pathways and leisure amenities. Together, these components are designed to reimagine the riverfront as a dynamic metropolitan zone.

Commitment to Affected Families

The minister stressed that the initiative is not designed to disadvantage any community segment. He emphasised that the government remains committed to embedding human welfare considerations into every aspect of the project and safeguarding the wellbeing of impacted households.

During the meeting, officials received directives to implement a resident-focused strategy throughout the land acquisition process. The minister instructed them to formulate a comprehensive scheme for providing double-bedroom residences to families displaced by the project.

Additionally, the government will extend statutory compensation and full rehabilitation support to individuals losing property. The minister underscored that the administration will not compromise on delivering equitable compensation and comprehensive rehabilitation measures.
