Telangana Government Prioritises Minority Welfare with Urdu Academy Celebrations and Development Initiatives

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is intensifying its commitment to minority community advancement through a comprehensive review of welfare schemes and infrastructure development, according to Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

At a high-level meeting convened at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, Bhatti Vikramarka examined the status of minority-focused initiatives and construction projects. The gathering included Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, heads of minority corporations, and key government functionaries.

Urdu Academy Golden Jubilee to Feature Major Cultural Events

The state will organise extensive Mushaira events in Hyderabad and across all district headquarters to commemorate the Urdu Academy's Golden Jubilee. The flagship programme will take place at LB Stadium in Hyderabad, with plans to celebrate Urdu language, literature, and cultural traditions throughout the state. Officials have been tasked with preparing arrangements for this major celebration, which the Deputy Chief Minister framed as demonstrating Telangana's dedication to preserving its linguistic and cultural diversity.

Residential Schools and Youth Employment Schemes

Infrastructure expansion remains central to the government's minority welfare agenda. Twenty minority residential schools featuring contemporary amenities have been completed and are prepared for opening, with an additional 17 facilities currently under construction. Bhatti Vikramarka instructed officials to maintain close oversight of ongoing construction and establish a deadline-driven plan to expedite completion of the remaining buildings.

The government also plans to roll out substantial financial support for minority youth through the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme. Officials have been directed to develop a comprehensive implementation framework for this employment and skill development initiative.

In a separate announcement, the Deputy Chief Minister revealed that ₹50 crore will be allocated to support Christian minority welfare, specifically targeting self-employment and business opportunities for young people from the community.

Waqf Land Protection and Community Infrastructure

Addressing concerns about encroachment, Bhatti Vikramarka instructed authorities to pursue legal action to protect Waqf properties and lands belonging to minority institutions. The government has also prioritised constructing boundary walls around minority burial grounds and identified district collectors to locate and designate land for new burial grounds in areas with substantial Muslim populations.

The Deputy Chief Minister called for a systematic action plan to strengthen infrastructure supporting minority welfare organisations and community amenities.

During the meeting, Minister Azharuddin extended an invitation to Bhatti Vikramarka to participate in special Muharram observances on the ninth day of the Islamic month in Hyderabad. The Deputy Chief Minister confirmed his attendance.

The review meeting was attended by senior officials including Finance Principal Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Planning Principal Secretary Gaurav Uppal, Finance Secretary Sikta Patnaik, Waqf Board Chairman Azmatullah, Minority Finance Corporation Chairman Obedullah Kotwal, Minority Residential Educational Society Vice Chairman and President Faheem Qureshi, Urdu Academy Chairman Taher Bin Hamdan, Christian Finance Corporation Chairman Deepak John, and Minority Welfare Secretary Shafiullah.
