Hyderabad Police Dismantle Organized MDMA Trafficking Ring

Authorities in Hyderabad have successfully broken up an organized network engaged in the trafficking and distribution of MDMA, culminating in the arrest of eight individuals and the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics and assets.
The operation, coordinated by the Commissioner's Task Force, Golconda Zone, and Mehdipatnam police, resulted in the apprehension of one primary drug peddler, three mid-level distributors, and four drug consumers. The enforcement action was carried out within the Mehdipatnam police station jurisdiction following intelligence about active drug trafficking operations in the area.
Authorities recovered 137.60 grams of MDMA during the raids. Additional items seized include a Volvo XC90 vehicle, nine mobile phones, weighing equipment, packaging materials including rubber bands and envelopes, with the total value of seized items estimated at Rs. 26.80 lakh.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as M. Shubham Kumar Mishra, Soham Nayak (also known as Jittu), Kalangi Rajesh, Munthun Kumar, Mohammed Abrar Alzama, Rashid Bin Hussain, Khaja Zohaibuddin, and Abdul Shaybaz.
How the Network Operated
Investigation findings reveal that Shubham Kumar Mishra initially sourced MDMA from his longtime associate Busa Sai Nikhil Yadav, known as Sai, who had previously been arrested by Chilkalguda police in an unrelated NDPS case. Mishra subsequently expanded his operations in partnership with Nayak and Rajesh, with the trio engaged in repackaging the drug into smaller units for retail distribution across Hyderabad and surrounding regions.
The network employed multiple delivery methods to reach customers, including direct personal delivery as well as utilization of Rapido ride-sharing services for transportation. Munthun Kumar played a supporting role in facilitating the supply chain to end consumers.
Street prices for MDMA in this market ranged from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000 per gram, according to police records.
Legal Action and Public Appeal
Police have registered a formal case (Crime No. 152/2026) at Mehdipatnam police station under multiple sections of the NDPS Act, including Sections 8(c), 22(c), 27A, 29, and 27(a).
The Hyderabad Police have issued a cautionary appeal to students and young people to resist the allure of narcotic substances. Parents have been advised to maintain close vigilance over their children's activities and associations. Additionally, law enforcement has called upon citizens to report any information regarding drug trafficking or other criminal activities to the authorities.
The operation was overseen by DCP Vaibhav Raghunath Gaikwad, IPS, in coordination with task force personnel and Mehdipatnam police officials.
