A tragic incident in Hyderabad has claimed the life of a young child after he fell into an uncovered water-filled sump at a construction site in Medchal. The victim, identified as Mahesh, was five years old and the son of Jupalli Mahender, who hailed from Rallapadu village in Kandukur mandal of Ongole district.

The boy's parents were employed as labourers at a residential construction project in Dharani Colony, and Mahesh had been playing in the vicinity of the worksite on Friday. The construction site's sump, which was filled with water, had been left without a protective cover—a lapse that proved fatal.

The child slipped into the sump and drowned. When family members realized Mahesh was nowhere to be found, they launched a frantic search. Upon discovering him in the sump, they quickly retrieved him, but he had already succumbed to the accident. The boy's family, who were residing at Satyanarayana Puram Colony in Medipally, were devastated by the loss.

The incident has sparked concerns about safety standards at construction sites across the area. Local residents have pointed fingers at the builder for failing to enforce fundamental safety protocols, particularly the critical requirement of securing open sumps. Community members are now calling for strict accountability measures against the developer and demanding that authorities implement more rigorous safety regulations to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Police from the Medipally station arrived at the scene following notification of the incident. Authorities have registered a case and begun their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death.
