MathWorks' MATLAB EXPO 2026 Showcases AI-Driven Engineering Innovation in Bengaluru
MathWorks wrapped up MATLAB EXPO 2026 in Bengaluru, bringing together more than 1,300 engineers, scientists, academic researchers, and industry executives. The single-day conference examined the transformative impact of generative AI, engineering copilots, agentic AI, and Model-Based Design approaches on contemporary engineering practice and innovation cycles.
The event prioritized real-world implementation of AI-powered design and simulation capabilities across diverse engineering sectors. Participants engaged with sessions addressing engineering copilots embedded in development processes, agentic automation, virtual vehicle engineering, autonomous systems, unmanned aerial platforms, maritime technology, power electrification, and communication and sensing systems. Speakers highlighted the importance of preserving engineering validation, accountability, and methodological rigor while simultaneously shortening time-to-market.
Industry Perspectives and Case Studies
Professionals from Boeing, Mercedes Benz Research and Development India, Tata Consultancy Services, Indian Institute of Science, and NXP Semiconductors presented practical applications tackling engineering obstacles across automotive, aerospace and defence, industrial automation, telecommunications, consumer electronics, semiconductor design, and medical device development. The conference featured hands-on technology demonstrations showcasing how MATLAB and Simulink facilitate AI-supported engineering, digital twin technology, embedded artificial intelligence, and deployment-ready workflows suited for commercial-scale implementation rather than prototyping phases.
"The enthusiasm around GenAI, copilots and agentic AI in engineering applications reflects a fundamental shift in how organisations approach development," noted Sunil Motwani, Country Manager – Sales and Service – MathWorks India. "Beyond initial experimentation, companies are now seriously assessing where these technologies can meaningfully enhance real-world engineering outcomes."
Keynote Presentations
Three keynote sessions structured the conference program. MathWorks leaders Seth Deland and Avinash Nehemiah explored how generative and agentic AI capabilities within MATLAB and Simulink enable engineering teams to expedite design work, strengthen simulation-based decision processes, and transition swiftly from initial concept to deployment-ready solutions.
Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Global Engineering and Technology Centers at Collins Aerospace, detailed how digital engineering and AI-enhanced knowledge platforms support moving innovations from conception through regulatory approval, leveraging digital twins to establish unified operational perspectives across organisations and integrating emerging AI applications for cockpit and cabin systems.
A roundtable discussion featuring senior representatives from Tata Consultancy Services, HSBC, Boeing, Mercedes Benz Research and Development (India), and the Indian Institute of Science analysed the reshaping of engineering workflows through AI copilots and autonomous agents. Participants examined how organisations validate AI-generated outputs in operational contexts, exploring questions of verification, oversight mechanisms, human involvement, and the shifting responsibilities of engineers managing progressively autonomous systems.
Technology Demonstrations
The conference incorporated multiple technology showcases. IIT Madras's Raftar Formula Racing team displayed their championship-caliber racing vehicle, while a dedicated pavilion focused on unmanned systems featured drone and eVTOL technologies created by MathWorks partner Speedgoat and emerging companies Zmotion Autonomous Systems and Reude Technologies utilising MATLAB and Simulink platforms.
Throughout MATLAB EXPO 2026, a dominant message emerged: AI copilots and agentic automation are enabling engineering teams to advance beyond experimental phases toward practical deployment. Whether through digital twins, embedded AI systems, or certification-approved platforms, the conference underscored a commitment to dependable, production-ready artificial intelligence that accelerates development and validation cycles while preserving meaningful engineer participation in critical decision-making and governance responsibilities.
