Malkajgiri Police Step Up Anti-Narcotics Drive in Student-Heavy Areas

Hyderabad's Malkajgiri Police have escalated their crackdown on narcotics trafficking in areas densely populated by students, particularly Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar.
According to Police Commissioner Sumathi IPS, the force is implementing rigorous surveillance protocols across neighborhoods housing thousands of young people. The overarching objective, she explained, is to establish a society free from drug-related crime through persistent law enforcement and technological monitoring.
The department has deployed drone-equipped surveillance during nighttime hours in high-risk zones. Officers are also conducting random drug screening on individuals flagged during targeted operations. Hostel facilities have become focal points for inspections and audits designed to uncover narcotics-related offences.
The police infrastructure now includes over 3,200 CCTV cameras positioned throughout critical locations across the jurisdiction. Authorities have also widened their focus to pan shops, which are suspected of functioning as distribution points for illegal substances.
Sumathi IPS cautioned that even a single conviction under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act could permanently compromise a young person's prospects. She urged students to prioritize their studies, maintain discipline, and pursue their professional ambitions rather than succumb to substance abuse.
The Police Commissioner also appealed to the broader public to partner with law enforcement agencies in strengthening community security and deterring drug proliferation.
