Malkajgiri Police Apprehend 268 Drunk Drivers in Seven-Day Crackdown

Hyderabad's Malkajgiri Traffic Police concluded an intensive week-long operation against impaired driving on April 25, 2026, having booked 268 offenders between April 19 and that date.
The enforcement campaign captured violations across multiple vehicle categories. Two-wheelers dominated the violations with 221 cases, followed by 37 four-wheelers and 10 three-wheelers. Heavy vehicles recorded no violations during the operation.
Blood Alcohol Concentration Levels
Authorities classified the apprehended drivers according to their Blood Alcohol Concentration measurements. The majority—235 offenders—registered BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. A smaller group of 25 individuals showed readings between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while eight drivers demonstrated severe intoxication with BAC levels exceeding 301 mg/100 ml.
All individuals identified during the drive face court proceedings for appropriate legal action.
Judicial Outcomes and Legal Warnings
During the same seven-day period, courts disposed of 167 drunk driving cases stemming from the operation. Sixteen offenders received custodial sentences accompanied by monetary penalties, while 23 individuals faced combined fines and mandatory social service. The remaining 128 cases resulted in financial penalties alone.
Traffic officials emphasized the gravity of driving under the influence, cautioning that those responsible for fatal accidents while intoxicated will face prosecution under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Section 105 of this legislation addresses culpable homicide not constituting murder and prescribes imprisonment up to 10 years along with financial penalties.
The operation reflects ongoing surveillance and stringent legal enforcement aimed at reducing traffic violations and enhancing road safety in the region.
