Massive Blaze Engulfs SYJ Complex in Old City's Madina Chowrasta

A devastating fire broke out at a textile shop within the SYJ Complex near Madina Chowrasta in Hyderabad's Old City on Thursday, sending plumes of thick smoke across the bustling commercial neighbourhood and creating widespread alarm among residents and shopkeepers.
The conflagration began at the cloth store and rapidly intensified due to the substantial quantities of fabric stored on the premises. Within minutes, dense smoke had blanketed the immediate vicinity as flames consumed the shop's contents.
Fire department personnel arrived at the scene with eight fire engines following notification of the emergency. The firefighting team engaged in rescue operations and containment efforts for over two hours, eventually bringing the blaze under control. The flames subsequently reached the ground floor of the complex, but firefighters managed to prevent further escalation.
Given the tightly clustered nature of commercial establishments in the Madina Chowrasta vicinity, authorities voiced apprehension that the fire could have spread to adjoining shops. Police personnel were deployed to monitor developments, and traffic officers rerouted vehicles in the surrounding areas to manage congestion caused by emergency response operations.
Pathargatti AIMIM corporator Sohail Quadri was present at the location, providing assistance to firefighting and rescue personnel during the operation.
Fortunately, the shop remained unoccupied when the fire started, resulting in no reported injuries or fatalities. Fire officials have yet to determine the precise cause of the incident or assess the full extent of property damage.
The incident has reignited debate about fire safety in the Old City's commercial infrastructure. Community members have questioned whether business establishments maintain adequate fire safety apparatus and electrical systems, and many are calling on the authorities to conduct thorough inspections and enforce compliance with fire safety standards against non-compliant buildings.
