Hyderabad Police Arrest Man in ₹10 Lakh Scrap Yard Fraud

Hyderabad authorities have made an arrest in a significant fraud case involving the deceptive sale of aluminium scrap. The Mailardevpally police apprehended Syed Suhail, a Bengaluru resident, who is accused of orchestrating the scheme that defrauded a buyer of ₹10 lakh. During their search operations, investigators recovered ₹7 lakh in cash along with multiple mobile phones, SIM cards, and a vehicle.

A second suspect in the case, Abdul Waheed, has managed to evade arrest and remains a fugitive.

How the Fraud Unfolded

The scheme centred on a fabricated transaction involving old aluminium scrap. Abdul Waheed reportedly identified a scrap facility in Katedan and collaborated with Suhail to target unsuspecting purchasers. The pair falsely advertised that they possessed a substantial quantity of used aluminium scrap ready for sale.

On May 19, businessman Mohammed Yaser Patel arrived at the scrap yard to finalise his purchase. As workers began loading materials, Suhail demanded an advance payment of ₹10 lakh, claiming the funds needed to be deposited at a bank. The victim handed over the requested amount in cash.

Suhail subsequently switched off his phone and fled the scene on a Honda Activa scooter, disappearing with the money.

Investigation and Recovery

Police determined that Suhail later distributed a portion of the stolen funds to Abdul Waheed before relocating to Bengaluru. He spent a considerable sum and concealed the remaining ₹7 lakh at his residence.

Through persistent investigation and intelligence work, Mailardevpally officers tracked down and arrested Suhail. The recovery operation yielded ₹7 lakh in cash, four Airtel SIM cards, two Jio SIM cards, a OnePlus mobile handset, a Redmi 5G mobile phone, and a Hyundai i20 vehicle.

Records show that Suhail faces charges in a separate cheating case filed at Chatrinaka Police Station. Authorities are actively pursuing Abdul Waheed's arrest and working to recover the remaining funds from the alleged fraud.
