Maarga Mind Care Launches Integrative Day Care Program to Bridge Mental Health Recovery Gap in India
Bengaluru: Mental healthcare in India faces a significant challenge—the space between stabilizing acute symptoms and achieving genuine, sustained recovery remains largely unaddressed. Maarga Mind Care is now stepping into this void with its newly launched Integrative Day Care Program, designed to shepherd patients through a structured, therapeutic journey toward restored functioning and everyday stability.
The scale of India's mental health crisis underscores the urgency of such interventions. Data from the National Mental Health Survey 2015–16 reveals that 10.6% of Indian adults currently experience mental disorders, with lifetime prevalence reaching 13.7%. More recent analyses suggest nearly 15% of the adult population may require clinical mental health support. Yet a treatment gap of 70% to 92% persists across various conditions. The World Health Organization has further warned that untreated mental health conditions could impose a financial burden of ₹9.62 lakh crore (US$1.03 trillion) on India between 2012 and 2030.
Maarga Mind Care's program addresses this gap through an innovative framework grounded in milieu therapy principles and enhanced by a proprietary Cognitive-Motor-Sensory (CMS) Integration Model. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, the program cultivates an immersive healing environment that builds confidence, self-awareness, social engagement, and meaningful reintegration into daily life.
"Our Integrative Day Care Program has been designed as a structured, compassionate, and personalised mental healthcare offering that supports individuals through recovery in a more holistic way," explained Dr Jothi Neeraja, Founder and Managing Director of Maarga Mind Care. "By combining therapeutic care, routine, emotional regulation, and social engagement, the program helps rebuild confidence, regain stability, and move forward meaningfully in their daily lives."
The program's multidisciplinary team comprises psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, case managers, music therapists, yoga facilitators, expressive art therapy specialists, and nursing staff. Continuous supervision and coordinated reviews enable treatment plans to evolve alongside each patient's progress.
Dr Jyoti Kapoor, Senior Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist at the facility, highlighted the program's broader impact: "What makes this program stand out is its balance of structured therapeutic activity with equally intentional moments of restoration. Through this program, patient families have reported better understanding of the patient's condition, improved communication patterns, enhanced trust in the recovery process and reduced caregiver burden due to structured and supervised engagement."
Co-Founder and Executive Director Dr Abhishek Hariharan Kandluri emphasized the philosophical shift: "Mental healthcare needs to move beyond the typical interventions and create more structured pathways for recovery which can accommodate the patients and care givers preferences and necessities. Our Integrative Day Care Program is designed to provide structured and compassionate support in a way that is holistic, personalised, and grounded in continuity of care."
The program represents a departure from episodic mental healthcare toward continuous, integrated recovery. By weaving together therapeutic milieu with cognitive-motor-sensory approaches, it creates what the organization describes as a "living therapeutic ecosystem"—one that transcends the boundaries of inpatient settings and extends into genuine, functional reintegration. In doing so, it embodies a fundamental principle of contemporary psychiatry: lasting recovery emerges not from isolation, but from sustained structure, meaningful engagement, and unbroken continuity of care.
