New Delhi — As digital connectivity paradoxically coexists with deepening emotional disconnection, mental health professionals are sounding the alarm about loneliness and depression becoming critical challenges for contemporary society.

A dedicated mental health forum titled "Loneliness & Depression: Implications & Solutions" convened experts to examine this growing concern. The event was organised by Dr. Vinay Aggarwal, Chairman & Managing Director of Pushpanjali Medical Education & Research Centre, alongside RAHEE and the Subhashan Foundation.

The gathering assembled a panel of prominent mental health specialists. Prof. (Dr.) Nimesh Desai, Former Director of IHBAS, joined Dr. Harijit Singh Bhatti, a Healthy Ageing Activist and Geriatric Specialist with an MD from AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr. Deepika Verma, Consultant Psychiatrist at Pushpanjali Medical Centre, also participated in the discussions.

Ms. Poonam Gaur, Counsellor and Director at RAHEE, and Ms. Rashmi Dhuriya, Founder & Lead Clinical Psychologist at STHIR – The Mind's Clinic, guided the conversation. Additional moderation came from Dr. Druhin Grover and Dr. Prabhani Bindra, Consultant Psychiatrists at Pushpanjali Medical Centre.

During the session, panelists underscored that loneliness extends beyond mere emotional experience—it functions as a substantial health risk factor connected to depression, anxiety, and numerous physical ailments. The contemporary landscape of rapid change and fragmented social structures has rendered senior citizens, professionals in demanding careers, and younger populations particularly susceptible to these conditions.

The forum concentrated on several key objectives: identifying concealed indicators of depression, examining the expanding consequences of social disconnection, presenting actionable coping techniques grounded in real-world application, and fostering transparent, judgment-free discussions about mental wellbeing.

The Asmita Theatre Group contributed a compelling street performance that illustrated the personal journeys of those navigating loneliness and depression in silence, amplifying the relevance and immediacy of the issue.

Event organisers stressed that confronting the silence surrounding mental health represents an essential pathway to recovery. Such forums serve as vital instruments for normalising the pursuit of professional help and cultivating communities characterised by emotional support and resilience.
