A Fast Track Special Court operating at L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad has handed down convictions in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case involving the sexual assault of a minor girl in Balapur.

The proceedings resulted in guilty verdicts for all three accused, who were prosecuted under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act following a case registered with Balapur Police Station.

The victim's mother, who had separated from her husband and was working as a domestic help, had entrusted her children to the care of her mother in Abubakar Colony, Kothapet, during her working hours. It was during this period that the assault occurred.

Main Accused Receives Life Sentence

Mohammad Azeem, aged 25, was found guilty of subjecting the minor to repeated sexual assault through coercion and intimidation. The court imposed a life sentence on him and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 22,000.

Co-Accused Sentenced for Threats and Forced Miscarriage

Mohammad Haleem, 31 years old, was convicted of intimidating both the victim and her mother. He was also found guilty of compelling the girl to ingest abortifacient tablets, resulting in a miscarriage. The court sentenced him to three years' imprisonment and levied a fine of Rs 6,000 against him.

Jameela Begum, 60, was similarly convicted for her role in threatening the victim and forcing her to consume pregnancy-terminating medication. She received a three-year prison sentence and was fined Rs 6,000.

Victim Awarded Compensation

The court granted Rs 4 lakh in compensation to the victim as part of its judgment.
