Le Méridien Launches Surat Property, Bringing Contemporary Luxury to India's Diamond Hub

April 28, 2026

Marriott International's Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts has inaugurated its debut property in Surat, establishing a significant presence in one of India's most dynamic commercial and cultural centres. The hotel, positioned along the Tapi River, represents the brand's second venture in Gujarat and brings its signature contemporary aesthetic to the city.

The 185-room establishment spans 125,000 square feet and sits just three kilometres from Surat International Airport, providing convenient access to notable attractions including Surat Fort, Dumas Beach, Chauta Bazaar, and the textile markets along Ring Road. The property's design narrative draws inspiration from the city's storied diamond and textile industries, incorporating mid-century modern elements with iridescent textures and faceted forms.

Two prominent art installations anchor the hotel's visual identity. "The Diamond Street – Heart of Surat" depicts artisans working in narrow lanes illuminated by sunlight, capturing the essence of Surat's diamond trade. Within the hotel's central hub, "The Threads of Surat – The Silk City" honours the city's textile heritage, celebrating the skilled craftsmanship that defines local identity.

Guest accommodations feature refined details reflecting the city's heritage in diamonds and textiles. The serene colour palette and thoughtful design elements throughout the property create spaces encouraging visitors to engage with Surat's distinct character and cultural offerings.

The culinary programme encompasses The Surat Kitchen, an all-day dining venue blending international sophistication with regional influences that reflect the city's celebrated food culture. Le Scoop, the brand's signature gelato offering, provides guests with moments of leisure and indulgence.

Event facilities span more than 100,000 square feet of flexible space, featuring two pillarless ballrooms named Ruby and Emerald alongside expansive outdoor lawns. This configuration enables the property to accommodate large-scale conferences, celebrations, and social gatherings with adaptable configurations.

Kiran Andicot, Senior Vice President for South Asia at Marriott International, described India as a critical growth market. "The city offers a compelling combination of commercial vitality and cultural depth, creating an environment where travelers increasingly seek experiences connected to the destination," Andicot stated. "With its heritage in craftsmanship, thriving food culture, and position as a regional hub, Surat aligns perfectly with the brand's commitment to helping guests discover and savour destinations through a creative lens."

The property participates in Marriott Bonvoy, the company's loyalty programme, enabling members to accumulate and redeem points across its global portfolio of brands and properties.

Aligned with the brand's Unlock Art™ initiative, Le Méridien Surat has partnered with Surat Fort to offer guests complimentary access to this cultural landmark, fostering deeper engagement with the city's artistic and historical landscape.

General Manager Manoj Jangid emphasised the property's philosophy: "Every element has been crafted to inspire guests to discover Surat through the brand's creative lens. From thoughtfully designed spaces that honor local craftsmanship to curated culinary experiences and versatile venues for celebrations, the hotel balances relaxation, cultural connection, and meaningful moments worth savouring."

The hotel provides additional amenities including a swimming pool and fitness centre designed to support both relaxation and routine wellness activities. Evening experiences in nearby areas such as Gaurav Path and Khaudra Gali offer guests opportunities to experience authentic local atmosphere.
