Telangana Minister Pledges Action on Farmer Support Following Unseasonal Rainfall

Hyderabad: Telangana's Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar inspected rain-damaged paddy at a procurement facility and committed state backing for affected farmers following recent unseasonal weather.

The minister made the visit to the facility in Maddulapalli village on Thursday evening, where paddy stocks had been compromised by unexpected rainfall across the administrative division.

During his inspection, Laxman Kumar attributed delays in the paddy weighing process to regulations implemented by the Central government, directing criticism toward New Delhi for the difficulties facing cultivators. He pointed out that grain had accumulated at rice mills due to the Centre's failure to carry out procurement operations.

The minister also took the opportunity to comment on governance under the previous BRS administration, contending that the former chief minister had discouraged paddy farming. He further claimed that regional leaders had previously sidelined farmer concerns and encouraged growers to approach mill operators independently.

Laxman Kumar highlighted that moisture-based deductions had been applied to farmer produce. He explained that upon discovering crop losses from the recent rainfall, the government initiated inspections at procurement facilities to mitigate farmer losses.

The minister reiterated that the state government remained committed to farmers' interests and would tackle their grievances directly. He indicated that should the district's rice mill capacity prove inadequate, the government would convert additional handloom storage facilities in Sirisilla district for grain storage purposes.

An official Government Order on the matter would be released shortly, Laxman Kumar stated, assuring farmers that the state would purchase all their paddy output. He cautioned that procurement centre officials causing complications during paddy weighing would face disciplinary action.

In addition to addressing crop procurement concerns, the minister focused on dairy farmer welfare. He inaugurated a veterinary service camp organised under the Praja Palana Pragathi Pranalika initiative in Maddulapalli village.

Speaking at the event, Laxman Kumar encouraged dairy farmers to make fuller use of state-provided veterinary resources for animal health management. He pledged efforts to enhance veterinary sub-centres linked to regional hospitals.

District Veterinary Officer Dr. Prakash, Mandal Veterinary Officer Dr. Hemalatha, Market Committee Chairman Burra Ramulu Goud and local officials participated in the programme.
