Lava Equips Over 20,000 Anganwadi Workers in Uttar Pradesh With Smartphones for Digital Service Delivery
Lava International Limited, India's homegrown smartphone manufacturer, has joined forces with the Uttar Pradesh government to bring digital capabilities to 20,941 Anganwadi workers across the state. The initiative aims to strengthen on-ground service delivery within the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework.
A launch event held at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow during March 2026 brought together state leadership under the banner "Suposhit Uttar Pradesh, Sashakt Bharat." Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended alongside Ms Baby Rani Maurya, the state's Minister of Women's Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition; Ms Leena Johri, Additional Chief Secretary (WCD); and Ms Sarneet Kaur Broca, Director (WCD). The gathering also included approximately 1,000 Anganwadi workers.
"Digital transformation at the grassroots is not just about access to devices, but about building systems that work reliably at scale for those delivering essential services on a day-to-day basis," said Mr. Lloyd D'souza, Chief Business Officer – Enterprise Business at Lava International Limited. He described the collaboration as a demonstration of the company's ability to develop technology solutions suited to public sector requirements in India, integrating hardware, software, and ground-level expertise.
The partnership centers on Lava's Storm Play series smartphones, engineered for field operations. These devices come equipped with Mobile Device Management (MDM) capabilities, a supervisor monitoring application, and state-specific interface integrations designed to align with ICDS and Women & Child Development (WCD) systems.
The digitization effort enables Anganwadi workers to transition from paper-based methods to real-time data collection and analysis. Workers can now record maternal and child health information instantly, track attendance and daily activities through digital means, document nutrition distribution for newborns and lactating mothers, and upload information to centralized systems for quicker administrative decision-making.
The shift promises multiple operational benefits: improved system-wide oversight, reduced reliance on paper records, expedited reporting processes, better tracking of food packet inventory for vulnerable populations, and earlier detection of health and nutrition concerns requiring intervention.
By placing technology directly with frontline workers, the scheme addresses the digital divide while strengthening how the state delivers grassroots welfare services. The partnership reinforces Lava's standing as a partner in public sector digital modernization efforts.
