BRS Chief Warns Congress Government Over Stalled Crop Procurement in Telangana

Hyderabad: In a forceful rebuke delivered on Wednesday, Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K. T. Rama Rao has put the Congress government on notice, demanding that it purchase all grain produced by Telangana's farming community or prepare for mounting demonstrations across the state.
The timing of his intervention coincides with the fourth anniversary of Congress's farmers' declaration announced in Warangal. KTR contended that pledges made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi remain unfulfilled to this day.
The BRS leader levelled accusations that the Congress administration has let down the farming sector and allowed an agricultural emergency to resurface in Telangana. He posed a direct question to the government: would it ensure crop procurement, or would it invite the wrath of 70 lakh farmers? KTR cautioned that if delays in procurement persist, the scale of protests would only grow.
According to KTR, the government has fallen short on multiple fronts, failing to deliver on farm loan waivers, monetary assistance, harvest bonuses, and timely fertiliser distribution. He alleged that deliberate postponement of procurement activities serves to circumvent bonus payments to cultivators.
Appealing to the farming community to remain steadfast, KTR urged them not to surrender to despair or self-harm. Instead, he mobilised them to demand accountability from the government through organised collective action. He further encouraged farmers to confront their elected representatives at the grassroots level regarding unkept assurances.
Directing his criticism at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, KTR stressed that the administration must urgently address the crisis facing farmers. Failure to do so, he warned, would invite formidable backlash from the agricultural sector.
Expressing alarm at recent farmer deaths, KTR attributed these tragedies to the government's inaction in tackling the agricultural distress gripping the state.
Across Telangana, farmers face mounting hardships stemming from procurement bottlenecks, unpaid dues from previous seasons, inadequate fertiliser availability, and erratic electricity supply. KTR criticised the government for prioritising media events and public relations over substantive solutions to farming sector problems.
The BRS leader has put forward a set of demands: unconditional procurement of all crops, full implementation of the Warangal farmers' declaration, completion of pending farm loan waivers, settlement of all outstanding dues, and financial relief for families who have lost farming members.
The Rythu Sangrama Sabha has passed multiple resolutions backing the farming community and intensifying pressure on the Congress government to act without further delay.
