KTR Alleges Congress Government Has Failed Telangana Farmers on Key Commitments

Hyderabad: K.T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has charged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's government with abandoning Telangana's farming sector and breaking commitments made to agricultural workers. Speaking at a gathering of party members in Maheswaram, the BRS leader contended that Congress-led welfare initiatives have deteriorated, imposing fresh burdens on farmers across the state.

In his remarks, KTR alleged that the administration had scrapped the Rythu Bandhu scheme, replacing it with what he termed "Rahul Bandhu." He further claimed that farmers continue to struggle accessing urea supplies, despite public assurances from Congress regarding fertiliser accessibility.

KTR pointed to a digital system established to streamline urea procurement as ineffective in meeting farmers' needs. He highlighted that Rangareddy and Malkajgiri districts were reportedly absent from the application's database, compounding distribution problems.

The opposition leader referenced earlier statements by Revanth Reddy criticising the previous government for excluding a third crop from Rythu Bandhu coverage. KTR asserted that Congress had failed to deliver on pledges to raise assistance to ₹15,000 per farmer and extend pensions to two family members per household.

According to KTR, discontent with the current administration is mounting throughout Telangana, with public sentiment remaining aligned with former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

Turning to fiscal matters, KTR questioned the Chief Minister's management of state finances. He alleged that Revanth Reddy had mischaracterised debt levels from the previous government's tenure.

KTR stated that Telangana's debt was ₹72,000 crore when the state was established in 2014. During the subsequent decade under BRS governance, he said the state accumulated ₹2.80 lakh crore in additional borrowing.

The BRS working president also made personal criticisms of the Chief Minister during his address. The Congress administration has not issued a formal response to these charges.
