BRS Leader KTR Demands Inquiry into Alleged POCSO Case Mishandling

Hyderabad: K.T. Rama Rao, a prominent BRS leader and MLA, has demanded a formal probe into what he characterises as significant delays and irregularities in the handling of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Friday, Rao levelled serious allegations against the state administration. He contended that the accused—identified as the son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar—evaded arrest for nine days before finally being taken into custody. According to the BRS leader, the arrest materialised only after the High Court refused to grant relief to the accused and mounting public pressure mounted.
Rao further claimed that the victim's family endured intimidation during the period following their initial complaint. He alleged that rather than promptly pursuing action against the accused, authorities instead registered a counter-case against the family members.
The opposition leader directed criticism toward Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, questioning explanations that police resources were diverted to arrangements for the Prime Minister's visit. Rao described this justification as "shameful" and suggested a deliberate conspiracy between the Chief Minister and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to protect the accused from prosecution.
In a separate allegation, Rao called for scrutiny into claims that the accused received shelter at a hospital with connections to associates of the Chief Minister. He stressed the necessity for a transparent investigation to establish clear accountability for the handling of the matter.
Rao also objected to what he termed "honey trap" narratives that circulated through certain media outlets regarding the case. He insisted that those responsible for spreading such characterisations be held accountable.
The BRS leader emphasised that his party raised these concerns purely to secure justice for the victim, denying any attempt to extract political advantage from the situation.
