BRS Chief KT Rama Rao Holds Government Accountable for Mancherial Farmer Deaths

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi's working president KT Rama Rao has held the Telangana government responsible for the deaths of farmers that occurred at procurement centres in Mancherial district following severe weather conditions.

Four farmers lost their lives across two separate incidents near procurement centres in the district after heavy downpours and gusty winds caused structural collapses. The same weather events left numerous other farmers injured when walls gave way during the storm.

KTR extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and called for the government to provide immediate ex gratia payments to those affected. He also urged authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured farmers.

The BRS leader attributed the tragedy to the Congress administration's failure to process crop procurement, pointing out that farmers had been waiting for weeks with their produce at procurement centres. He charged the government with negligence in protecting farmers' lives and livelihoods.

Seven deaths reported across state

According to KTR's statement, seven farmers have died at various procurement centres throughout Telangana over the preceding three days. He characterised these deaths as evidence of systemic failure by the state authorities to safeguard the farming community.

The former minister called for the immediate procurement of all crops stacked at procurement centres and market yards statewide. He also criticised the government's sluggish response to repeated grievances from farmers regarding procurement backlogs and hazardous working conditions at these facilities.
