KLEF Secures First Runner-Up Honor at National Energy Efficiency Competition

KL Deemed to be University (KLEF) has received the First Runner-Up Award in the "Best Application & Uses of Renewable Energy" category at the 10th CII National Energy Efficiency Circle Competition 2026. The event took place on 2–3 July 2026 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi's Lodhi Road area.
The competition drew participation from 142 organizations, with over 350 delegates attending from various parts of the country. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) presented the award to recognize KLEF's efforts in deploying renewable energy infrastructure and maintaining energy-efficient operations across its campus.
Mr. D. Seshi Reddy, Associate Dean of Planning & Development, and Dr. K. J. Brahma Chari, Associate Dean of Planning & Development, received the award on the University's behalf. The ceremony included remarks from prominent officials: Shri P. Shyam Sunder, Director of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power; Mr. Abhishek Gupta, Head of International Appliances, Rooftop Solar & PE&A at Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in New Delhi; and Shri Vivek Thakur, Executive Chairperson of CII's Haryana chapter.
KLEF's renewable energy infrastructure spans multiple technologies and approaches. The institution has installed capacity totaling 3,854.81 kWp, which produced 5.90 million kWh of electricity during 2025–26—meeting approximately half of the campus's annual power needs. The renewable energy portfolio includes rooftop and elevated solar installations, hybrid solar-wind systems, battery-backed infrastructure, and state-of-the-art high-efficiency solar panels.
The University's progress in renewable energy deployment has been substantial over a four-year span. Generation volumes grew from 1.99 million kWh in 2022–23 to 5.90 million kWh in 2025–26, representing a 196% increase. Concurrently, through deployment of more than 3,500 smart energy meters and advanced conservation strategies, KLEF reduced its Energy Performance Index by 34%. During 2025–26 alone, these measures prevented approximately 4,189 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, while cumulative emissions avoided over four years exceeded 11,785 tonnes.
Er. Koneru Satyanarayana, Chancellor of KL Deemed to be University, commented on the achievement: "Sustainability is not merely an initiative at KLEF; it is an integral part of our institutional vision. This national recognition from CII reflects our long-term commitment to building net-zero carbon campuses through renewable energy, energy-efficient infrastructure, and responsible resource management. As an educational institution, we believe it is our responsibility to demonstrate sustainable practices while inspiring future generations to build a cleaner, greener, and more resilient world."
The award reinforces KLEF's standing among India's leading universities in sustainable campus practices. The institution holds ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management System certification and has implemented various green building measures. These efforts position the University as a model for integrating environmental responsibility into academic, research, and operational functions.
