Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy conducted a surprise visit to Malakpet railway station on Saturday, where he voiced strong criticism about the pace of ongoing modernisation work at the facility.

The minister's inspection focused on development activities being carried out as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. During his tour, Kishan Reddy assessed multiple aspects of the project, including platform upgrades, passenger waiting areas, elevator and escalator installations, restroom facilities, and improvements to station entry points.

Finding the work progress inadequate, Kishan Reddy issued a stern warning to the executing contractor and ordered railway officials to meet the original completion timeline. He emphasised the need to accelerate work without disrupting passenger services and cautioned against compromising quality standards.

Speaking about the project's significance, the minister highlighted that public funds must deliver tangible benefits to citizens. He noted that the station serves tens of thousands of commuters daily, underscoring its importance to the city's transportation infrastructure.

Railway authorities assured that commuters would gain access to substantially improved amenities once the modernisation is complete. The inspection was attended by South Central Railway officials, representatives from local government bodies, and personnel from relevant departments.

Residents of the area have expressed optimism that the minister's visit will spur faster completion of the pending work.
