Union Minister Kishan Reddy Criticises Congress Over Women's Representation

Hyderabad: During the closing ceremonies of Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations at Jaya Garden in Somajiguda on Sunday, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy levelled sharp criticism at the Congress party, contending that its opposition to women's empowerment measures has deprived women and marginalised communities of vital opportunities.

The remarks came following Kishan Reddy's participation in the Prime Minister's 'Mann Ki Baat' programme earlier that day. At the event, he specifically cited Congress's stance on the Women's Reservation Bill as evidence of the party's resistance to expanding representation for women, Dalits, and tribal populations. He characterised these actions as perpetuating systemic injustice against vast sections of Indian society.

The Union Minister also trained his criticism on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), suggesting the regional party had demonstrated insufficient commitment to addressing women's representation concerns.

Kishan Reddy directed additional criticism at senior Congress figures, naming Rahul Gandhi, A. Revanth Reddy, and M. K. Stalin, and alleged they had disseminated misleading claims regarding constituency delimitation and its effects on South Indian interests. He dismissed assertions of regional disadvantage as fundamentally inaccurate.

The Minister articulated the Prime Minister's vision as one of proportional expansion of parliamentary representation across all states, emphasising that the central government remained dedicated to balanced development without favouring any particular region.

Reflecting on historical governance patterns, Kishan Reddy asserted that Backward Classes faced systematic neglect during extended periods of Congress administration. He credited the incumbent government with initiating comprehensive caste-based enumeration efforts targeting Backward Classes communities.

Distinguishing the government's approach, Kishan Reddy stressed prioritisation of concrete execution over rhetorical commitments. He revealed that the Prime Minister would soon undertake a Telangana visit to inaugurate development projects valued at ₹7,000 crore, encompassing railway station upgrades, highway improvements, and the Zaheerabad Industrial Corridor initiative.

According to the Minister, the industrial corridor development would generate employment prospects for young people while catalysing broader economic expansion within the state, representing tangible evidence of the Centre's infrastructure investment and development agenda for Telangana.
