Police Crack Bus Theft Case, Recover Gold Ornaments Worth 62 Grams

Hyderabad authorities have cracked a case involving the theft of precious jewelry from a bus passenger, leading to the arrest of a serial offender and the recovery of all stolen items.

The incident occurred when a traveler lost a handbag containing approximately 62 grams of gold ornaments while aboard a private bus traveling from Andhra Pradesh to Sangareddy district. The complainant lodged a formal complaint at Khairatabad Police Station, prompting the department to initiate an investigation.

Police efforts culminated in the identification and apprehension of Tatapudi Tella Raja, also known as Raju, a 48-year-old from Darsi village in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and provided information leading to the recovery of the complete haul of stolen gold ornaments.

Pattern of Criminal Activity

The investigation uncovered a troubling pattern of offences. Raju's criminal history spans multiple jurisdictions, with theft cases registered against him at police stations in Kukatpalli, Pet Basheerabad, Panjagutta, Narsaraopet, and Krishnalanka across both states. Interrogation also revealed his involvement in two additional cases at LB Nagar and Saifabad police stations, which are now under further examination by detectives.

Safety Recommendations Issued

In response to this case, Hyderabad City Police have released comprehensive guidelines for both passengers and transport operators to minimize theft during travel. Commuters are advised to maintain constant personal control over jewelry, cash, mobile devices, and other valuables. The advisory emphasizes the importance of securing bags properly, refraining from leaving items unattended, and promptly alerting bus staff or law enforcement to any questionable behavior.

For transport companies, police have recommended the installation and maintenance of operational CCTV cameras, meticulous record-keeping of passenger information, and thorough verification of passenger credentials before boarding. Operators have also been cautioned against permitting unregistered passengers to board without appropriate identification documents.

The case was investigated under the oversight of In-charge ACP Panjagutta Division K. Sanjay Kumar, with Khairatabad Station House Officer B. Venkat Reddy and Detective Inspector M. Balaswamy heading the investigative team. Senior police officials commended the investigating officers for their diligent work in resolving the matter and securing the recovery of stolen property.
