KCR Condemns BJP MP's Remarks on Telangana Formation, Criticises Congress and BJP Silence

Hyderabad: BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao has launched a sharp attack on remarks concerning Telangana's formation made by BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, while simultaneously criticising the failure of Congress and BJP leaders to respond to the comments.
Speaking at a BRS state executive committee gathering held at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, KCR asserted that his party's MPs would have mounted a forceful protest in the Lok Sabha, transforming the chamber into a "battlefield" had such remarks been directed at them.
The BRS president expressed particular frustration at the muted response from Telangana's Congress and BJP leadership. He questioned their inaction when a saffron party MP made statements against the state's formation, contrasting their silence with the BRS's historical record of defending Telangana in Parliament.
Pointing to precedent, KCR recalled how his party had vigorously contested Union Minister C.R. Patil's statements regarding the Kaleshwaram project. He noted that party floor leader Suresh Reddy had denounced those remarks in the Rajya Sabha, underscoring the BRS's consistent advocacy for the state's welfare.
Reflecting on his own political journey, KCR revealed that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi had previously pressed him to make concessions on Hyderabad. He maintained that he steadfastly rejected such demands, viewing his refusal as evidence of his dedication to Telangana's cause.
During the meeting, KCR directed party members to undertake a thorough examination of the factors contributing to their recent electoral setback. Despite the party's implementation of multiple welfare initiatives and a membership base of 60 lakh, KCR emphasised that membership strength alone was insufficient—quality of engagement mattered significantly more.
He highlighted that the party's performance had been particularly disappointing in coal-mining regions, even though BRS had championed the interests of Singareni workers. Meanwhile, KCR levelled accusations against Congress leaders, alleging they had engaged in illegal activities and land encroachments.
Nevertheless, KCR expressed optimism that growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration would translate into electoral gains for the BRS in coming elections.
Turning his attention to governance issues, KCR voiced concerns about the state government's handling of agricultural matters. He alleged that farmers' conditions had deteriorated under the current administration, citing ineffective grain procurement mechanisms and describing the broader situation as "unclear and concerning."
KCR accused the government of neglecting public grievances and characterised the administration as a "petty government." He further claimed that Congress leaders had reduced Telangana to a "garbage dump."
To revitalise the party, KCR announced significant organisational restructuring. All party committees have been dissolved except the state committee. The party will now conduct membership drives through both digital and traditional channels. Additionally, KCR instructed that 200 activists in each Assembly constituency receive training.
For the membership campaign, the party has set fees at ₹10 for general membership and ₹50 for active membership.
The party passed resolutions demanding comprehensive procurement of all crops throughout the state and urging the immediate implementation of women's reservations in government positions.
