KCR Highlights Muharram as Symbol of Sacrifice and Communal Harmony in Telangana

Hyderabad: K. Chandrashekhar Rao, president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), issued a statement on Thursday emphasizing that Muharram embodies principles of righteousness, truth, and sacrifice while serving as an expression of Telangana's Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb—a cultural ethos rooted in interfaith coexistence.

The BRS leader characterized the Peer festival, which is observed across Telangana's villages and urban centers, as a testament to religious harmony. He pointed to the widespread participation of people from diverse castes and faiths in Muharram commemorations, which honor the sacrifices of Hassan and Hussain, as evidence of the state's enduring commitment to unity.

Rao underscored that the cross-community involvement in these observances reflects Telangana's inclusive character. He expressed optimism that this spirit of harmony would persist in the coming years.

In his statement, the former Chief Minister recalled that during its ten-year governance period, the BRS championed secular principles by recognizing and supporting festivals celebrated across all communities. He highlighted that the party had rolled out various welfare initiatives aimed at advancing the welfare of Muslim minorities during its tenure.

Rao reiterated the BRS's commitment to advancing the interests of minority communities, pledging that the party would remain dedicated to safeguarding their welfare and rights moving forward.
