Kavitha Raises Questions on Voter Roll Cleanup, Demands Election Commission Response

Hyderabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha, president of Telangana Jagruthi, has challenged the Election Commission over its handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, particularly regarding voter deletions in the Bodhan Assembly constituency.

Speaking to journalists in Hyderabad on Monday, Kavitha noted that the Election Commission has conducted the SIR exercise on eight separate occasions across India. She expressed concern that approximately 7,000 voters were removed from the Bodhan constituency within a single year, and sought a detailed explanation from the poll body.

Drawing a comparison to actor Prakash Raj's case, where duplicate voter registrations across two locations took seven years to rectify, Kavitha highlighted what she described as inconsistencies in the revision process.

Duplicate Voter Registrations Remain a Concern

The BRS leader pointed to widespread duplicate voter entries across Telangana as a persistent problem. She alleged that only 800 votes were struck off from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's Kodangal constituency, despite concerns about the scale of duplicates.

According to Kavitha, her party's independent verification of the Kodangal electoral rolls uncovered nearly 33,000 duplicate voter entries. Given that the Chief Minister secured victory in the previous election by approximately 32,000 votes, she questioned whether such a large number of duplicate registrations could have influenced the electoral outcome.

Kavitha also raised broader concerns about potential interstate voter movement, asking whether votes had shifted from Karnataka in connection with alleged financial transfers during the elections. She urged the Election Commission to investigate these allegations.

Call for Interstate Coordination

The BRS MLC emphasized the need for the Election Commission to conduct cross-state verification of voter data as part of the nationwide SIR process. She cited instances of Hyderabad residents holding simultaneous voter registrations in Andhra Pradesh, arguing that every individual should maintain only a single valid voter registration.

Kavitha demanded the systematic removal of duplicate voter entries that span multiple states. She announced that her party intends to lodge a formal complaint with the Election Commission regarding these irregularities.
