Kavitha Detained During Grain Procurement Protest at Secretariat

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, president of the Telangana Rakshana Sena, led a demonstration at the Secretariat on May 22 to press for urgent intervention in the state's grain procurement crisis.
The protest centred on farmer grievances, with Kavitha and her supporters calling for officials to halt the practice of deducting excess weight during grain purchases. The activists also demanded accountability and fair treatment for agricultural producers facing procurement delays.
Demonstrators gathered near the Secretariat to voice their concerns, with slogans and chants marking an intensified campaign against what they characterised as systemic delays in procurement operations.
Police moved in after Kavitha and Telangana Rakshana Sena members initiated a sit-in at the protest venue. Authorities detained Kavitha along with several party leaders and workers, subsequently removing them from the location.
The demonstration reflects Kavitha's recent political repositioning. Following her suspension from the BRS, she established the Telangana Rakshana Sena as a new political platform. Since its launch, she has maintained a visible public profile through organising demonstrations and engaging with media on matters of public concern.
Political analysts have observed that her strategy centres on building grassroots visibility through consistent protest initiatives. The grain procurement action aligns with this approach, targeting farmers experiencing hardship due to purchase delays across Telangana.
