Hyderabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha, founder of the Telangana Rakshana Sena, is set to kick off a significant campaign addressing water rights grievances in Palamuru on May 8. The initiative centres on what she characterises as inequitable distribution of Krishna river waters to Telangana.

The event represents a flagship political undertaking since Kavitha established her party. She has voiced persistent apprehensions regarding the state's allocation of river water resources.

The campaign will commence with religious observances at Jogulamba Temple. Kavitha will subsequently address a gathering at Choudarigudem in Palamuru, situated within Mahabubnagar district. The location has been strategically selected near the planned KP Lakshmi Devi Palli Reservoir, a component of the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Organisers have designated the assembly as the "Palamuru–Rangareddy Project Realization Meeting."

Long-standing concerns over water allocation

Kavitha has repeatedly taken aim at successive administrations over how water resources are distributed. She contends that Telangana has failed to fully harness its entitlement to Krishna river waters more than a decade following the state's establishment.

Throughout her "Janambaata" community engagement initiative, Kavitha drew attention to setbacks affecting the Palamuru–Rangareddy project. Multiple facets of this undertaking remain incomplete, she noted.

The May 8 gathering is designed to reinforce her call for Telangana to secure its due water allocation. Discussions are anticipated to centre on irrigation development priorities and unfinished infrastructure components.

Mapping out a mobilisation strategy

The meeting is expected to see Kavitha unveil an approach for sustained agitation on the matter. This strategy seeks to mobilise pressure on both national and state authorities to accelerate decision-making and project implementation timelines.

Party functionaries recently unveiled promotional materials for the event at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills. The announcement was attended by party leaders including Naveen Achari, Gongalla Ranjith Kumar, Syed Ismail, Naresh Prajapathi, Edurugatla Sampath Goud, Seema Ramesh, Buchibabu, and Mustafa.

Observers anticipate that this public gathering will establish momentum for an expanded campaign centred on water resource management across Telangana.
