Telangana Opposition Leader Blames Congress for Mancherial Farmer Deaths Amid Procurement Delays

Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kavitha Kalvakuntla has leveled sharp criticism at the Congress government, attributing farmer deaths in Mancherial district to negligence in paddy procurement operations.

The incident claimed four lives in Lakshmipet mandal when a wall collapsed during unseasonal rainfall that struck late into the night. Kavitha noted that approximately 15 farmers had assembled in the villages of Kothur and Gampalpalli to guard their paddy stocks against the heavy downpour and gusty winds.

According to Kavitha's statement, the government's failure to procure grain on schedule compelled farmers to remain stationed near their harvested crops during severe weather conditions. She further asserted that procurement delays across Telangana have resulted in seven farmer deaths within a single week.

The opposition leader has called on the state administration to provide immediate ex gratia payments to the families of deceased farmers and to extend compensation to households impacted by procurement-related losses. She has additionally pressed the government to accelerate the pace of paddy procurement during the current Yasangi season.
